Capital Region BOCES students build holiday joy

Capital Region BOCES students are learning skills while being festive this holiday season.

Students in the Carpentry Services and Building Trades programs are making and selling tabletop wooden Christmas trees and snowmen. Proceeds from the sales will fund a future project in the program.

Though sales continue through Dec. 15, dozens of snowmen and trees have already been ordered and/or sold.

The 10-inch tree and snowmen cost $5. A 20-inch tree is also available and costs $10 decorated or $5 without decorations. The crafts can be ordered by emailing Patrick.Wyman@neric.org.

Students say they enjoy the holiday project.

“It’s fun. I chose building trades because I like working with my hands and being creative,” said Yoseph Bryant of Watervliet.

Carpentry Services and Building Trades are two of about 28 programs Capital Region BOCES offers high school students to prepare them for careers ranging from carpenters to electricians, and nurses to chefs.
