Substitute teachers, teaching assistants and nurses are in high-demand, and needed on an ongoing basis
Apply to become a substitute in Capital Region BOCES classes and/or up to 20 area schools.
Teacher assistant substitutes are processed for Achievement Kids’ Express, Capital Region BOCES, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Cohoes, Green Island, Niskayuna, North Colonie, Schalmont, Schoharie, South Colonie and Voorheesville school districts. All other districts teacher assistant substitutes are hired via the school district’s human resource offices.
The minimum requirements vary by school district.
- Substitute teachers must have proof of 60 college credits, an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, license or certification, depending on the school district.
- Teacher assistants need proof of high school diploma, a GED diploma, AAS diploma or a New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate, depending on the district.
- Nurses must have an RN and/or LPN license and current CPR training.

Appointments are held at 900 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Albany, and are necessary for an interview, paperwork review and system orientation. Please be patient; it generally takes up to two weeks to get an appointment.
