Emily Cetnar has joined Capital Region BOCES as assistant principal of special education public school programs (Region 2). Cetnar will work alongside Region 2 Principal John Clausson. 

“Emily is a great addition to our team,” said Clausson. “She has a wealth of knowledge and cares deeply about the students we serve. Her leadership will go a long way in ensuring students learn and grow in a safe and supportive environment.” 

Cetnar comes to Capital Region BOCES from the Greater Amsterdam School District and has worked in education for 16 years. She previously taught in a 6:1:1 therapeutic support program at Washington-Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex (WSWHE) BOCES and served as chairperson of the Committee on Special Education. 

In a letter to staff, she expressed the importance of data-driven, student-centered decision-making, as well as accessible and responsible leadership, communication and collaboration. 

“The best outcomes for students occur when dedicated professionals collaborate in a culture built on trust, respect, and shared responsibility,” Cetnar said. “My goal is to support the work you do, help remove barriers where I can, and ensure that our decisions remain grounded in what’s best for students.” 

Cetnar looks forward to building connections, learning from the expertise of her new colleagues across the division, and helping shape positive outcomes for students and families. She assumed her position at Capital Region BOCES on July 16.
