Capital Region BOCES get an inside look at the Port of Albany

Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical Education students got an insider look at the operations of the Port of Albany on Oct. 27.

Albany and Schoharie CTE students from welding and heavy equipment tour the Port of Albany properties and businesses in Albany on Friday, October 27, 2023.

Students in the Welding and Metal Fabrication and the Heavy Equipment Operation, Maintenance & Repair programs toured the facilities used to bring transport cargo from boats to rail to trucks and learned about the career opportunities that exist for them.

Heavy Equipment teacher Matt Millard praised the experience.

“The trip was very well organized and informative. As a heavy equipment instructor the value in students getting to see a live construction site and hear how it works is invaluable. The scenarios the students witnessed were real world and reinforced the lessons taught in class,” said Millard.
Nearly 80 juniors and seniors from two-dozen school districts took part in the tour and educational opportunity.

The tour was part of a busy month of October for students at Capital Region BOCES as BOCES marked Careers in Construction Month with a series of activities, trips and guest educators who detailed the “ins” and “outs” of the construction industry.
