The Nurse Aide (NA)/Home Health Aide (HHA) program is a great starting place for individuals who would like to work as a supportive caregiver in a health care setting or pursue further education in Practical Nursing or other health-related careers.

A new session of the program begins July 20 and runs through Aug. 28 at the Health Careers Center located at 925 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany. Classes will meet Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.

During the program, students learn total patient care in the classroom, skills laboratory and through off-campus, supervised clinical experiences. Students prepare for the state-approved home health aide examination, as well as the New York State Certified Nurse Aide (Prometric) examination. Certification qualifies them to work in nursing homes, homes, and assisted-living settings.

Students will gain clinical experience at healthcare facilities that include the Baptist Retirement Center; Daughters of Sarah; Evergreen Commons; Kingsway Nursing Home; Our Lady of Mercy Life Care; Shaker Place Rehabilitation & Nursing Center; Teresian House and Van Rensselaer Manor.
