“Over the years, I’ve seen each of you go from figuring things out piece by piece to becoming young people with strength, direction and purpose,” said Principle Gabriele Barbato. “You face challenges and yet here you are standing on the edge of a new chapter, not leaning to one side or missing a mystery piece, but rather built solid and complete.

Twelve graduates received an outpouring of love as their teachers delivered heartfelt reflections about the students’ personal milestones, including passing the Regents exams and completing Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs in Welding and Metal Fabrication, Diesel Technology and Carpentry Services, among others.

“When I met Daireem [Tibbs] as a ninth grader, I was a little concerned that he wouldn’t be standing here today,” said Special Education Teacher Roberto Biasiucci. “Today, I see a young man who has been able to overcome setbacks and personal loss and is graduating with more credits than he needs.”

Maywood graduates were also praised for contributing to a school environment where everyone feels respected and cherished.

“At Maywood, we talk about choosing kindness,” said Barbato. “You’ve been making a difference one action, one choice, one moment of kindness at a time. And now, you are carrying that mindset with you wherever you go. You don’t need to have it all figured out, just keep pushing in the right direction and trust that the momentum will carry you further than you ever imagined.

“To the class of 2025: you matter, your stories definitely matter, and the world will need your voice, your care and your energy. Go out and make a change, one small act at a time. Congratulations, Maywood Academy class of 2025!”
