Jennifer Bloomingdale, a training specialist, has received our March 2025 Improvement Commitment Award.

This award recognizes Capital Region BOCES staff who are the best at getting better and anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs.

Jen was selected as the recipient of the Improvement Commitment Award for her instrumental support of our NERIC division’s E-Learning services and initiatives. Since joining us in May 2023, she has distinguished herself as a professional developer in educational technology, particularly in generative AI.

Jen has emerged as a leader at NERIC and within our region by facilitating training sessions on generative AI, helping educators and district administrators embrace and enhance their AI skills.

In February 2025, Jen was one of 12 lead trainers nationwide selected for the Building Capacity for Generative AI in K-12 Education program, run by the Association of Educational Service Agencies (AESA) and the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN). The program aims to support school districts in assessing readiness to implement generative AI technologies and developing implementation plans aligned with instructional and operational objectives. This honor is a direct result of her successes in AI professional learning.

Jen was nominated for this award by Deputy Director Mike Sylofksi. “Jen’s accomplishments are further driven by a willingness to grow her personal capacity as an educator,” Sylofksi said.

Beyond her efforts in generative AI, Jen has excelled in helping districts improve their credit recovery programs. She accomplishes this through consistent and valuable communication and information sharing with program coordinators across our region. Her efforts have been so impactful that one partner vendor noted the data from students using their platform to complete coursework shows some of the highest improvement rates in the country.

The Commitment Awards were established to recognize employees who embody each commitment to a significant degree, and is one part of a three-tiered recognition program to build a culture of gratitude through acknowledgment and appreciation. Our Commitments — SERVICE, VALUE, EXCELLENCE, IMPROVEMENT, LEADERSHIP — embody what we do and who we are.
