Adults looking for the prescription to a successful professional career need to look no further than the Capital Region BOCES Adult Health Careers Center.
Through its Practical Nursing program, approximately 100 adults annually are given the education they need to become licensed practical nurses (LPNs).
Institutions ranging from Albany Medical Center to Ingersoll Place line up to hire these students as they prepare to enter the workforce each summer.
“We value our partnership with BOCES. We have met some very interested and excited students,” said Michelle Rearic, a representative of Ingersoll Place, during a recruiting event last year
Adults interested in being part of that solution are encouraged to enroll now in the next adult Practical Nursing program session.
Applications are being accepted through April 30 for the 2026-27 school year full-time PN program, contingent upon a qualifying TEAS entrance exam score. The program is anticipated to begin in September 2026, with an expected completion date of June 2027 for this 10-month program.
The full-time program runs for 10 months at the Career and Technical Education Center – Albany Campus, located at 925B Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany (Colonie).
The state-approved adult Practical Nursing program at the Capital Region BOCES Career & Technical School encompasses 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical study and practice. Students earn their clinical experience in
various local health care facilities, including Ellis Hospital, Teresian House, the Albany County Nursing Home and Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, as well as the Our Lady of Mercy Life Center and more.
Current Capital Region BOCES students say they want to be a part of the solution.
“I want to be able to help people. I want to be the person that is able to step up and say, ‘I can help,’” said Angelica Bilica, a Mechanicville resident enrolled in this year’s session.
Classmate Joyce Dieujuste of Watervliet agreed.
“I like helping people, and healthcare is a good field to get into,” she said.
