Established in 1913, NTCNet (Newport Telephone Company) is celebrating over 106 years of service. It is one of the oldest of New York State’s 40 independent telephone companies. Today, the company serves approximately 240 square miles of Herkimer County and parts of Oneida and Hamilton County.
In addition to local telephone service, NTCNet provides long-distance telephone and internet service.

A dynamic position offering the opportunity to develop, update and maintain GIS Data for the organization within an integrated system. This position will work collaboratively with multiple disciplines throughout the organization, including, but not limited to outside plant/engineering, IT, Customer Service, Accounting and Management.

Skills Needed:

As we continue our deployment of a fiber-based Network, assist with development and documentation of our outside plant network in our integrated GIS platform.
Ability to time-manage and prioritize, take a proactive approach to improving network information, and have an innovative and keen interest in learning new technologies and applications.
Participate in various reporting efforts, including but not limited to network planning, market analysis and State/Federal requests reutilizing data from multiple sources.
While all the skills below are not required for the position, it lists those of the most ideal candidate and what skills you will attain while working at NTCNET:
• GIS software experience and/or education utilizing ArcGIS, QGIS or other digital mapping software.
• Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as work orders, staking sheets and other geographic information.
• Excellent communication skills; written and verbal.
• Strong computer skills with the ability to work with data in Microsoft Excel
• Highly detailed oriented.
• Self-starter, able to work independently as well as work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Ability to work with data from several sources both internal and external.
• Assist in field work as necessary.
• Assist in process for utility pole licensing and permitting.
• Ability to audit and reconcile differences from multiple data sources.
• Assist in broadband deployment design including work on FTTH, DSL, Fixed Wireless and Ethernet Services.
• Interface with vendors for support and new product testing.
• Documenting system changes and procedures.
