Deputy Director of NERIC (Information Technology Services) (CIVIL SERVICE TITLE Deputy Director-NERIC/CERTIFIED TENURE AREA: Deputy Director- NERIC)

Capital Region BOCES provides both educational programs and educational support services, including an extensive IT division (NERIC) that serves over 250 school districts locally and statewide. NERIC is currently in search of their next Deputy Director to oversee all Information Technology Services.  This executive leadership position will report directly to the Chief Technology Officer of NERIC. As the Deputy Director you would provide strategic direction and operational oversight to ensure service excellence across two critical service areas: Cooperative Technology Services and Network Services, which includes WAN and Server Infrastructure.

What you will do:

As NERIC’s Deputy Director, you will lead teams that deliver core infrastructure services including internet access, server & network support, telecom maintenance, managed firewall and VOIP systems and end-user support.  Your contributions to strategic technology planning and district technology consultation will ensure alignment with NERIC’s mission to provide innovative, secure and customer-centered technology services to our subscribing school districts.

In your role, you can expect the following

  • Your day will be busy having full oversight over the operations of multiple service areas including our Service Desk, our 24/7 datacenter, the network & server infrastructure (WAN, managed firewall, internet, telecom and VOIP services) and our cooperative technology services which provide high quality technology planning and various IT services for our clients.
  • You will collaborate with the Chief Technology Officer and other NERIC leaders to support organization-wide planning, decision making and operations through the execution of strategies that support our subscriber’s goals, while aligning NERIC’s operational priorities & service standards
  • You will supervise managers and team leaders both on-site and remotely in these service areas; offering mentoring, support and professional development opportunities to build a culture of collaboration, accountability and service excellence.
  • You will strive for continuous improvement by monitoring service delivery metrics, identifying opportunities for process refinement, staff development and technology upgrades. This includes identifying emerging technologies and recommending innovations to enhance operational efficiency and service value.
  • You will serve as a senior liaison to school districts and key stakeholders to ensure client needs are understood and met effectively hence promoting a customer-first mindset across all service teams.
  • You’ll hone your budgeting and resource management skills by overseeing budgets & resources allocations for all services under your leadership. This includes managing vendor relationships and overseeing the defined procurement process.
  • You will be an integral part of key objectives such as ensuring reliable performance, availability & security of all infrastructure services, promoting standardization tools to support client technology goals and developing business models for new service offerings.

What you bring to our team:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Educational Administration or closely related field with at least 5 years of experience managing IT services and/or datacenters. Master’s degree candidates require 4 years of referenced experience. At least two years of qualifying experience involving the direct supervision of staff is required. (Candidates without these degrees but with 7-10 years of applicable experience are encouraged to apply and your background will be reviewed for equivalency)
  • Ability to effectively lead multiple teams, manage high level, multi-faceted projects and supervise the schedules and work of others
  • Enthusiasm for advancing technology in education
  • Passion to help others, great leadership and communication skills and a personal drive for continuous learning and a desire to develop your skills and the skills of your team members.
  • Any experience working in school district IT related operations ideal but not required
