Students from throughout the region were awarded scholarships on June 5 for their dedication and academic achievements at Capital Region BOCES.

During the annual Career and Technical Education Center – Albany Campus Awards and Scholarship celebration, students were honored for their academics, professionalism, dedication, compassion and more. Among the scholarships awarded were the:

  • Joe Fuchs Award, which was presented to Automotive Services senior NazirKing, from North Colonie. The annual award recognizes a student who exemplifies growth in achievement, the development of skills specific to an

    occupation, growth in citizenship, work ethic, leadership and pride in their chosen occupation. Burden plans to study art at SUNY Schenectady County Community College’s Center City in the fall.
  • Curtis Lumber Award, which was presented to Building Trades senior Nate Wiltsie, from Mohonasen. The award recognizes a Building Trades student who has demonstrated a passion for their field as well as an alignment with the core values of Curtis Lumber. Knizek was part of the annual SkillsUSA National Signing Day and is employed by the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters.
  • Mike Todd Welding Award, which was presented to Welding and Metal Fabrication senior Austin Smith from Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk. The scholarship was established by the Faculty Association of Capital Region BOCES in memory of Todd, who was a welding teacher at Albany CTE who passed away in 2012 and inspired many students to work their hardest in the pursuit of a career in welding. Trudeau is working as a welder at Ross Precision Manufacturing in Green Island and plans to eventually return to college to study business.
  • JC Glindmyer Superhero Scholarship, which was presented to Diesel Tech senior Natalie Bartlett of Cobleskill-Richmondville. The scholarship was established in memory of JC Glindmyer, the owner of Earthworld Comics, and aims to continue his legacy of passion, creativity and community support.
