Adult Practical Nursing program open house is March 4

Teacher and student with a mannequin An open house for adults ready to start a new chapter in their professional lives will be held March 4 at the Capital Region BOCES Health Careers and Services Center.

The adult Practical Nursing  program open house will run from 3 to 7 p.m. at the center, which is located at the Career and Technical Education Center, 925B  Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany. Light refreshments will be served.

A new session of the full-time adult Practical Nursing program will begin in September. The program encompasses 1,100 hours of classroom and clinical study and practice and prepares students to take the national certification exam. Students learn in the classrooms and labs of Capital Region BOCES, as well as gain clinical experience in healthcare facilities across the region. 

Teacher and studen“I have always wanted to be a nurse, and I heard good things about this program, so here I am,” said current student Irelynn Dooley of Mechanicville.

Classmate Angelica Bilica is using the Practical Nursing program as a launching pad to a bigger and better professional future.

“My goal right now is to be an RN. I am very much a ‘one step at a time person,’ so I am starting here,” said the Mechanicville resident. “I chose nursing because I want to be there for my patients, make a difference in their lives and be there for more than a few minutes and show them empathy and compassion.”

Student intubatingApplications are being accepted through April 30, contingent upon a qualifying TEAS entrance exam score. The program is anticipated to begin in September 2026, with an expected completion date of June 2027 for this 10-month program.
