Job Description:
This is a trainee position involving responsibility for learning the duties and routines in the operation and maintenance of a sewage treatment plant. The incumbent in this position undergoes on-the-job training to become qualified as an operator of the sewage treatment plant. The work is performed under direct supervision of a qualified operator. Does related work as required

Skills Needed:
Good physical condition with ability to lift 50 pounds. Working knowledge of hand tools and their use. Working knowledge of elementary principles of mathematics, chemistry and general science. Ability to learn principles and procedures relating to operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant. Ability to learn to enter data onto computer with speed and accuracy. Ability to observe safety practices. Ability to understand and interpret written material, as well as understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to develop skill in the operation and minor maintenance of pumps, valves, and related mechanical equipment. Ability to read scales and gauges
Age Requirement:
18+
Certification Or Education Required:
Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) months of experience in the plumbing/mechanical trades. Possession of a valid New York State Driver’s License at time of appointment. Must successfully pass the Wastewater Basic Operations Course as outlined in the New York Water Environment Associates Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Certification Manual within one (1) year of permanent appointment.
