At Capital Region BOCES, we deliver essential educational programs and support services to school districts across the region and New York State. Behind our mission are hundreds of dedicated professionals, including a dynamic Human Resources team that drives our success. Guided by our core commitments—Service, Value, Excellence, Improvement, and Leadership—we are seeking a Human Resources Specialist to join us as we support our extraordinary workforce.
What you will do:
As our Human Resources Specialist, you’ll be an integral part of our HR Team —ensuring our day-to-day HR processes run smoothly, accurately, and compassionately. Every day brings unique experiences where you will directly support our staff. Each day, you can expect the following:
- You will be part of a collaborative team that works to manage the flow of critical employee transactions from day one through retirement. Whether it’s processing hires, promotions, civil service transactions, leave requests, or separations, you’ll keep every detail organized and accurate.
- You will serve as a reliable liaison to our staff for our various health and insurance plans. You’ll handle membership updates, enrollments, and contractual requirements while guiding employees through their benefits with care.
- You will use your keen eye for detail to enter, track, and manage employee records within our automated HR systems, ensuring our records remain dependable and up-to-date.
- Employees will look to you for clear answers! You will field daily inquiries on benefits, workers’ compensation, workday requirements, leave of absence policies, job postings and retirement plans with clarity and empathy.
- When basic benefits or personnel discrepancies pop up, you will dive in to resolve them efficiently and draft clear, professional correspondence to keep everyone informed.
- Working closely with staff, you will help break down complex union contract details, helping employees easily understand their rights, expectations, and workplace guidelines.
- You will partner with administration and school personnel to communicate and track required certifications and licenses, keeping our specialized team compliant and ready to serve.
- You will actively support recruitment and onboarding initiatives to ensure new team members experience a seamless, organized, and welcoming start.
- You’ll have access to specialized professional development opportunities to expand your HR knowledge and understanding of school district operations.
- As part of a close-knit HR team, you’ll jump in to assist with related departmental projects and special initiatives whenever needed.
Why this is a great job:
You will make a difference! You will be working with a dedicated team of HR professionals working towards the common goal of supporting our organization and its employees, all of which work to positively impact the students in our districts and the education landscape across the state. At the end of each day, you will leave your office with a sense of satisfaction that you made a difference and really helped our organization. Along with great job satisfaction, you will receive:
- Platinum level, co-pay-based health insurance program; Individual or Family options available and BOCES pays 79% of the premium
- Extremely generous paid time off, including 15 paid holidays, four weeks of vacation and a separate bank of sick/personal time
- Membership in a public, pension-based retirement system.
- Access to engaging professional development experiences.
What you bring to our team:
- 1-2 years of experience conducting HR functions such as recruitment, benefits administration, workers compensation, employee onboarding or staff training & development. This is also a great position for a college graduate looking to launch a career in human resources.
- Strong communication & organizational skills with ability to clearly convey detailed information.
- Keen analytical skills and ability to solve problems.
