Building Trades

The Capital Region is expanding with new growth and development, with contractors and carpenters building a new tomorrow for the region. As a result, there are endless opportunities for trained construction and renovation professionals.

Students in the Building Trades program learn through standardized craft training programs developed by the Home Builders Institute (HBI) and the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). These include campus and community projects that provide valuable real-life experience.

Students who pass written exams and performance tests may earn HBI and NCCER certifications, which are recognized by contractors and employers nationwide.

Who is eligible to attend?

Typically juniors and seniors from our 24 component school districts who are interested in career training as part of their high school experience are eligible to enroll.

How do I enroll?

The first step is to meet with your home school guidance counselor to learn how Career & Technical Education can benefit your career path. Your counselor can then help you arrange a tour of our Albany (Colonie) or Schoharie campuses, or the Center for Advanced Technology at Mohonasen. They can also help you begin the enrollment process.
