Programs that meet the educational and workforce development needs of learners

The CTE Extension Center campus offers high school eight programs, including courses for honor students, college-credit bearing courses, and programs for students of all abilities.

About Our Facilities

The new state-of-the-art CTE Extension Center opened for learning in September 2025.  The 46,377-square-foot CTE Extension Center is home to two new programs—New Visions: Emerging Technologies and Plumbing Technology—and six expanded ones. Those include the Heavy Equipment Repair and Operation (HERO) program which previously had only been offered at the Schoharie Career and Technical Education Center.  Also being offered at the Extension Center is increased classroom spaces for the Electrical Trades, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Manufacturing and Machining Technology and Digital Media Design programs.

Inside, students find classrooms featuring the latest technology and equipment for each career and technical program, as well as faculty and staff who are experts in their fields, oftentimes having worked several years or even decades in the industries they now teach about.

Classrooms and laboratories are set up like actual businesses, where students work with real customers and gain experience in their trade or profession utilizing the tools and technology they will also use in the workforce.

Learning Extends Beyond the Campus

Field trips and visits, job shadowing, internships and paid employment experiences give our students an edge in careers and college. The Capital Region Career & Technical Education Center partners with local business and industry to offer such opportunities, and employers from our region help us design programs to meet the changing demands of today’s workplace.

These partnerships often lead to employment opportunities post-high school and even while the students remain in school.

They also allow students to professionally network and build relationships in the industries of their choice.
