Substitute teachers, teaching assistants and nurses are in high-demand, and needed on an ongoing basis.
Selected applicants will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001. The applicant will also be responsible for the cost of the required fingerprinting.
Apply to become a substitute in Capital Region BOCES classes and/or up to 20 area schools.
Teacher assistant substitutes are processed for Achievement Kids’ Express, Capital Region BOCES, Cohoes, Green Island, Niskayuna, North Colonie, Schalmont, Schoharie, South Colonie and Voorheesville school districts. All other districts teacher assistant substitutes are hired via the school district’s human resource offices.
Minimum Requirements
The minimum requirements vary by school district.
- Substitute teachers must have proof of 60 college credits, an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, license or certification, depending on the school district.
- Teacher assistants need proof of high school diploma, a GED diploma, AAS diploma or a New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate, depending on the district.
- Nurses must have an RN and/or LPN license and current CPR training.
