Changes in Response to COVID-19

  • Our administrative office is open for staff who need to work from this site, but will remain closed to the public. Employees critical to our operations will continue to work regularly on-site. This includes those responsible for physical inspection and maintenance of our network infrastructure, critical business and human resource office functions, receiving, security, maintenance/cleaning and specific services we provide to districts.
  • Ensuring the safety of our staff and buildings. Many of our 12-month employees continue to work remotely to provide vital services. There should be no difference in the support our partners are accustomed to receiving.
  • BOCES board meetings held online until further notice. The Capital Region BOCES Board of Education meets generally on the third Monday. During COVID-19 we will adhere to the Governor’s Executive Order to hold meetings virtually.  Agendas and meeting minutes are posted on BoardDocs. NYS COVID-19 Report Card

The NYS COVID-19 Report Card is available to the public on the New York State Department of Health website and includes daily case statistics from schools and BOCES throughout the state.

What to know about the NYS COVID-19 Report Card:

  • All school districts and BOCES in New York are required to submit a daily report to the state of any confirmed cases of COVID-19 linked to one of their schools.
  • We are required to report cases where someone (teachers and staff employed by and students enrolled in the BOCES, both on-site and off-site) shows symptoms of COVID-19, but has not been tested or has not received an alternative diagnosis within 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. These cases are also reported as “positive.”
  • Data reported has been shared by either the parent/guardian of the student, notified by teacher and staff, or communicated by the local health department as part of the contact tracing effort.

Our Reopening Plan may be viewed online. It outlines Capital Region BOCES’ plans for reopening our schools and programs for the 2020-2021 school year.

Technical Support for Students Chromebooks/Devices

We are ready to answer questions parents and students may have on how to  use of their BOCES-issued Chromebooks and other learning equipment and provide technical support for devices. Please contact our technical support team at 518-862-5490.

We recognize that this is a challenging and likely stressful time for our students and their families. Childcare Available for Families

If you are a parent or caregiver who needs child care, the New York State Office of Children and Family Services may be able to help you find this support.

Additionally, the Child Care Resource and Referral Agency (CCRR) is a great resource for childcare in the Capital Region that meets your needs. Contact BrightsideUp (formerly the Capital District Child Care Council),  518-426-7181, for more information.

Childcare For Healthcare Workers, First Responders and Other “Essential” Staff

YMCA branch locations in the Capital Region are offering school-age childcare for emergency personnel (physicians, nurses, EMTs and many others. View a complete list of essential workers.)

Care for infants and toddlers is also available at the following YMCA locations:

  • Clifton Park/KidzLodge Early Learning Center
  • Duanesburg/Early Learning Center
  • Glenville/Learning Ladder Early Learning Center
  • Scotia/Thelma P. Lally Early Learning Center

Financial assistance is available for this care.

Local school leaders are also working with the YMCA and other childcare providers to bring additional childcare options for emergency personnel to their school communities.

Childcare for Non-School Age Children

Families needing childcare resources for non-school-age children (birth to age five) can contact A Childs Place at Unity House, 518-271-6777.

No Cost Childcare For Income Eligible Essential Workers

New York State is using a portion of the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act) funds to provide childcare to income eligible essential workers at no cost.

Essential workers who must work outside of the home and who are using a licensed and regulated childcare provider can receive a scholarship for the cost of care (for as long as the funds to support it are available.) For parents that currently receive a childcare subsidy from their local Department of Social Services, this scholarship can cover the parent co-pay. 

To qualify for the scholarship, families must have an adjusted gross income at or below 300% of the federal poverty level. For a family of four that equals an annual income of $78,600. 

Parents are asked to complete this application for the CARES Child Care Scholarship. The application will be considered complete once the online application is finished  and the required supplemental documentation is submitted to Brightside Up, the Childcare Resource and Referral Agency (CCRA) for Albany, Fulton, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady counties.

Meals Available 

We know hunger is a reality for many of the children and teens who attend our schools. That’s why meals will continue to be available to all students, including those attending school in-person and those learning remotely
