Assistant Principal-Special Education

Special Education-Maywood Schools

Basic Function:

Serve in support of the Special Education School Principal. Comply with and administer the appropriate laws, regulations, policies and procedures affecting the Special Education Division. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

A. New York State certification in School Building Leader or School Administrator/Supervisor required.
B. Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university, or one accredited by New York State to grant degrees, with a Master’s Degree in educational leadership or a related field.
C. Permanent NYS teaching certification.
D. Programmatic experience in Special Education school settings and knowledge of state/local regulations required.
E. Proven ability to communicate effectively with students, family members, school district administrators and other external professional staff;
F. Demonstration of strong writing skills.
G. Strong belief and commitment to development of a restorative school environment.

Responsibilities:

1. Assistant Principal will provide administrative and curriculum support to the Principal to ensure that the school provide a safe, productive learning environment of the highest quality and is aligned with NYS Common Core Learning Standards and Individual Educational Program mandates.
2. Assistant Principal will participate in implementing policies, programs and curriculum activities in a manner that promotes individualized educational development of each student, engages actively in guiding the professional development of teaching staff, and facilitates effective partnering and communication with parents, family members and other educational service providers.
3. Assistant Principal will take on the operation of the school in the Principal’s absence, when necessary.

Starting Salary:

Salary commensurate with experience.
