Each year, students in grades four through eight, and under the age of 16, can represent their home school districts in a Regional Spelling Bee.
The bee format aligns with the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which includes written spelling, vocabulary testing, and oral spelling. This format ensures the most advantageous conditions for participants to better prepare them for the National Bee.
Information for school districts
Only schools that have completed both of the steps, below, will be eligible to send students to the Capital Region Spelling Bee.
- Each school (not each district) must register on the National Spelling Bee Website. The Scripps registration fee covers enrollment and materials including online access to a password-protected website featuring guides and spellcheck materials.
- Submit the names and grades of participating students by the determined deadline.
