In addition to overseeing the Capital Region BOCES organization, the district superintendent is an employee of the New York State Education Department, serving as a local representative of the Education Commissioner. Through that connection, Capital Region BOCES supports the NYS Education Department in many ways.
The District Superintendent serves as a liaison between schools and the Education Department, including to help interpret regulations and facilitate communication.
The District Superintendent routinely contacts component superintendents about the latest news and decisions out of the New York State Education Department, as well as hosts forums and discussions to take local feedback back to the Education Commissioner.
All areas of Capital Region BOCES focus on helping students meet the New York State Education Departments learning standards.
