Fingerprinting/Criminal History Records Clearance

Required for Substitute Teachers, Teacher Assistants and Nurses

The information below is from the OSPRA website and is meant to provide information for substitute teaching applicants for the Capital Region BOCES Substitute Registry serving BOCES and the districts of Achievements/Kids Express, Bethlehem, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Cohoes, Duanesburg, Green Island, Guilderland, Menands, Mohonasen, Niskayuna, North Colonie, Ravena-Coeymans-Selkirk, Rensselaer City, Schalmont, Schenectady, Schoharie, Scotia-Glenville, South Colonie, Voorheesville and Watervliet.

Effective July 1, 2001, Sections 305(30), 3004-b, 3004-c and 3035 of the Education Law, as amended by Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and Part 87 of the Commissioners Regulations, the Commissioner of Education requires a fingerprint-supported criminal history background check for applicants.

Fingerprints are processed by the Commissioner of Education through the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
