Career Options

The new Career Options Program at the Schoharie campus CTE serves students grades 9-12 by providing career exploratory experiences while teaching the required skills to get and stay on the job.

The goal of the program is to provide students with the support and guidance needed to ensure the much-feared transition from school to the adult world. Students work in small group settings to try out the following career areas: customer service/retail, computer skills, housekeeping, food preparation, maintenance, and carpentry skills.

Students earn work based-learning hours required by the CDOS credential by demonstrating skills learned in the program. They will also develop a portfolio which reflects their skills. The class will be taught by a career and technical educator with support from special education staff.

The Career Options program is a Career Studies program for students who want to learn hands-on at an alternate pace. Career Studies programs have a student to teacher ratio of approximately 12:1.
