Agricultural Technology

This program engages students in hands-on laboratories and activities to explore the world of animal agriculture. During the course, students develop a comprehensive producer's management guide for an animal of their choice. Learning takes place in the classroom and on-campus flower shop, at community sites and businesses, and through regional competitions and shows. Students learn the creative and business aspects of the floral industry as well as about plant biology and identification.

Woven throughout the course are activities to develop and improve employability skills of students through practical applications. Students explore career and post-secondary opportunities in each area of the course.

Students participating in the course will experience hands-on activities, projects and problems.

Student activities involve the study of communication, the science of agriculture, plants, animals, natural resources and agricultural mechanics. While surveying the career opportunities available, students learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in teams and take responsibility for their work, actions, and learning. For example, students work in groups to determine the efficiency and environmental impacts of fuel sources.
