Fall certified nurse assistant, home health aide class to be offered

 

Capital Region BOCES will be offering this fall a Personal Care Aide/Home Health Aide/Adult Nurse Assistant (PCA/HHA/NA) class for adults interested in entering the highly in demand healthcare industry.

The seven-week, 144-hour class will meet Wednesday through Fridays from Aug. 30 through Oct. 15 at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center at 1015 Watervliet-Shaker Road in Albany.

The program provides certification as a personal care aide (PCA), home health aide (HHA) and nurse assistant. For those wishing to just be certified as a PCA, the class is 56 hours; for those seeking PCA and HHA certification only, the class is 110 hours.

Classes will run 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., each day. Adults must be at least 17 years of age and complete a successful interview, as well as have professional and personal references and pass a physical exam .

The cost of the program class is $1,700. For students only interested in the PCA training, the cost is $700. For those interested in PCA and HHA, the cost is $1,300. Click here for more on costs.

With a 49 percent projected job growth between now and 2022 for personal care aides, a 48 percent projected job growth for home health care aides and a 21 percent projected growth for nurse assistants, the careers offer great a prospect for those looking for work in the industry.

Students will earn their clinical experience in various local healthcare facilities including, Ellis Hospital, Ingersoll Place Assisted Living, Guilderland Nursing Home, Kingsway Arms Nursing Center, Teresian House, the Albany County Nursing Home and Baptist Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
