Name: Alan Gauvreau

CTE program: Welding & Metal Fabrication

What metal and electrodes do you use with specific metals?

That's the knowledge Alan Gauvreau credits Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) with teaching him, along with preparing him for a life and career outside of school.

"Everything I learned at CTE will be useful to me later in life. Especially, what types of metal and electrodes to use with what material and what settings and machines I need," he said.

The 2017 Schenectady High School graduate completed the CTE welding and metal fabrication program in June and has his sights set on a career in a metal and fabrication shop.

"Coming to school every day to learn was a high point for me. I really enjoyed the program and getting work done while learning new things," said Gauvreau. "Now, I am looking forward to working in a shop and fixing and making things. Going to BOCES has been a huge advantage because I have learned various skills I need for welding and to be successful.”
