CTE program: AYES

Glenn MacDonald spent his last official days with Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Education Center (CTE) representing New York state in a national skills competition. Now, he is on to even bigger and better things!

MacDonald, who attended CTE from the Guilderland Central School, is attending the University of Northwestern Ohio this fall to build on his automotive repair skills and to learn diesel engine skills.

The 2017 Albany Campus Capital Region BOCES CTE Student of the Year had a very big presence at CTE during his time, winning a state SkillsUSA championship in automotive technology and earning the right to represent CTE and New York at the national SkillsUSA competition in Louisville, Kentucky last June.

"It was a great experience. I have taken AP tests, Regents tests and this was by far the greatest mental challenge I have experienced,” said MacDonald just hours before flying home from Kentucky to take part in the Guilderland graduation ceremony.

MacDonald credits CTE with teaching him not only automotive skills, but also life skills.Working on a car

"I have learned a lot of detailed engine rebuilding skills, but I have also learned a lot of communication and professional skills at CTE."

MacDonald was succinct when asked what advice he would give future automotive students at BOCES.

"Act professionally and success will follow," he said.
