Teacher honored as SkillsUSA Area Advisor of the Year

Schoharie campus teacher highly involved with his students

Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) teacher Matt Millard has been named the SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year by his peers in the statewide chapter of the organization.

Millard oversees the SkillsUSA organization on the Schoharie campus and is a heavy equipment/commercial construction teacher there. He was presented the award at the New York state SkillsUSA conference in Syracuse recently in recognition of his "hard work, time and effort put into his students and SkillsUSA," said CTE teaching assistant and SkillsUSA advisor Andrea Rea.

"Matt has been involved for many years as a contest chair and now serves as a state advisor, accompanying students to Washington D.C. for the annual meeting," Rea said.

Millard, a CTE graduate who has worked for BOCES for more than a decade, said he was honored by award.

"I enjoy working with the kids and the organization. This is a nice honor that I am humbled to receive," he said.

SkillsUSA is a national organization for career and technical education students that promotes personal and professional growth and offers them the opportunity to compete at the local, regional, state and national levels.
