Culinary students honored; advance to regionals

 

Regional competition is March 16

 

MajiraSix culinary students from around the region will represent Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) at the regional SkillsUSA competition later this week after winning CTE-based competitions.

The students and others were honored on March 10 in front of a packed-house of parents, faculty, administrators and peers.

The honorees received trophies, medals and certificates for competing in a series of SkillsUSA competition at the school. They competed in four different categories that tested their abilities on everything from knife skills to table setting.

The top two points earners in each competition — which was judged by area chefs and restrainers — advance to the March 16 SkillsUSA regional competition in Schenectady and potentially onto state and national events.

Those students are listed below followed by their home school districts.

Commercial baking

  • 1st Place — Slater Bouchard, Cohoes
  • 2nd Place — Ashley Nichols Scotia-Glenville  Slater works with chef rother

Culinary arts

  • 1st Place — Demetrios Fantroy, Adult student
  • 2nd Place — Majira Ambroise, South Colonie

Food preparation assistant:

  • 1st Place — Alexzander Morina, Albany City
  • 2nd Place — Sanjulo Taylor, Saratoga Springs

Food and beverage service

  • 1st place — Majira Ambroise, South Colonie

 

The students will join more than 300 other students from the Capital Region, North Country, Hudson Valley and beyond at Stratton Air National Guard Base and Schenectady County Community College to take part in the regional SkillsUSA competition on March 16.

Besides culinary competitions, students will compete in heavy equipment, electrical, heating, nursing and other skill events as part of the annual  SkillsUSA competition.
