Dozens of area high school students and their families attended an open house at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical Center (CTE) on January 27.
Some were looking to explore career options while others already know what they want to do and want the competitive edge as they looked at the various programs offered at the campus.
Scheduled during Regents testing week when most students are not required to be school in their home districts, the open house gave the prospective students a view of what student life is like at CTE.
In one classroom, prospective students tried their hands at braiding; in another a prospective student talked one-on-one with heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC/R) teacher Frank Ando.
"If you like doing the same thing day after day, don't come here. This is about getting the experiences those in the HVAC field have every day and it varies," Ando told the prospective student.
Anyone interested in exploring career options at CTE or attending a specific program should contact their home district guidance office as well as reach out the CTE guidance office at (518) 862-4800.
