Students honored for good citizenship

Students helped and were kind to others

Four Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students were presented recently with "Good Citizen Awards."

The students — Dennis Byerwalters, Rannie O'Donnell, Matt Pementel and Angela Yezzo were recognized for a variety of activities that improved the lives of others.

O'Donnell, an adult student in the floral program, organized a community service project for SkillsUSA. She bought all the supplies and taught a group of students how to make bird toys. These toys were donated to the North East Avian Rescue where Rannie volunteers.

Byerwalters, a welding student from Shenendehowa, was recognized for "always patient and kind" when interacting with students in the campus store.

Yezzo, from Schalmont, and Pemantel, from Schenectady, are both culinary students and were honored for assisting at the Capital Region BOCES Faculty Association Christmas party.

"They made pizza and cookies and spent time assisting the younger children to decorate the cookies. The party was a success," school counselor Debra Toy said.
