Not your traditional school store: Boutique boosts learning, school prom

CTE students help other students learn, have a great prom

 

Store student pictureLooking for a new shirt or blouse? How about a pair of trousers or a skirt? Let Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School students clothe you! 

A recently opened boutique section in the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) store on its Albany campus is helping students learn and have a great prom!

The store's boutique section is open every Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. featuring gently worn clothes for sale at great prices.

Students in the Retail and Office Services class run the boutique and provide input and assistance with the fashion selections.

And if a shopper finds a fashionable article of clothing of their liking, students will handle the transaction. What can make the deal even better? 100 percent of the proceeds of the purchase are given to the Capital Region BOCES Spring Prom for current students and alumni of BOCES special education programs.

storeThe prom, which hosts approximately 200 students and adults for a formal evening of dinner, dancing and socializing, is supported each year by generous contributions from BOCES students and staff, as well as efforts like the BOCES school store boutique. store

"This is a great way for BOCES faculty and staff to support the prom and our students' learning experiences while picking up a nice piece of attire,� said teacher Gretchen McDonough.
