Schoharie Career and Tech campus exceeds blood drive goal; earns scholarship

Drive last week proved draining for students and faculty

John donatesA blood drive last week at the Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) Schoharie campus was so successful that it exceeded its goal by 50 percent and helped the campus net a $250 American Red Cross Scholarship.

Students and faculty as well as the public donated a total of 32 units of blood at the March 30 drive at CTE which was sponsored by the campus SkillsUSA chapter. The goal for the drive was 21 units, said SkillsUSA Schoharie campus advisor Jackie Gleckman.

"I am very pleased that our students, faculty and staff gave of themselves and showed a true community spirit," said Principal Mindy Iannotti.

As a result of the success of the drive and a earlier one in the fall, the American Red Cross is awarding a $250 scholarship to a CTE student from the campus.

The scholarship winner will be announced in June at the end-of-year awards ceremony.
