In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Capital Region BOCES cosmetology students and faculty in the cosmetology program recently raised $1,200 for breast cancer research. Students welcomed members of the public into their classroom from 8:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Oct. 19, offering up everything from facials to a wash and dry, pedicure and coloring in exchange for donations to the American Cancer Society. According to the latest report from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), more than 30 percent of high school students graduate with no plans to attend college and little or no job skills. Taking that a step further, of the 68 percent of high school students who do attend college, 40 percent don’t finish with a degree! Read More

Students to offer spa treatments to raise money for breast cancer research 

Capital Region BOCES Career and Technical School (CTE) cosmetology students will throw open their classroom doors to the public on Oct. 19 to raise funds for breast cancer research. Students will conduct a day-long spa on the Albany CTE campus with all of the proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Read More

CTE program immerses students into theater life at Proctors 

Students from across the Capital Region are learning from An American in Paris thanks to a partnership between Capital Region BOCES Career an Technical School (CTE), area high schools and Proctors Theatre.

Students are taking part in a five-week, one-day-a-week technical theater training program run by CTE and hosted at Proctors called Broadway Tech Career Orientation. The new program, which began in mid-September, runs through Oct. 23. Read More
