Auto Body Refinishing

a student paints a carCars and trucks are a major investment, and skilled auto body repair technicians are in demand to repair and restore them.

Auto Body Refinishing is a one-year program which teaches students how to use the latest automotive refinishing equipment to paint complete vehicles or vehicle sections. Students are prepared for careers as an auto body refinisher or restorer, auto dismantler, vehicle painter or detailer, shop manager, used car reconditioner, equipment salesperson, paint company representative, auto body supply retailer or wholesaler and more.

  • Job Projections: 8 percent annual growth in new jobs through 2022
  • Median U.S. Salary: $40,379 (in 2016)
  • Education requirements: Most employers prefer to hire repairers who have completed a formal training program in automotive body repair or refinishing. Many new repairers begin work without formal training. Industry certification is becoming increasingly important.

How Capital Region BOCES CTE can get you there

Capital Region BOCES automotive trades students learn about ever-changing materials, methods and technology while working on late-model cars and donated vehicles in a state-of-the-art shop and classroom. They learn how to mix specific paint colors, detail vehicles and calculate finishing costs. They are also introduced to the latest water-based paint and material technology.

The Auto Body Refinishing program is certified by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation/Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (NATEF/ASE).
